It's been how long?

Erik and I will celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary on July 13. But since we started seriously dating the summer before our senior year in high school, this year actually marks our 10th anniversary of being together! Can you believe it? A lot has happened in the last 10 years, but it has gone by so fast.

I think when we started dating in high school, no one thought it would last the school year. Actually, I know that's true since I've had friends tell me just that. And I guess I don't really blame them for thinking such despicable thoughts since I'll admit I didn't really expect it to go this far at the beginning. We are kind of the opposite ends of the spectrum for a lot of things. Like when thoughts spew from his mouth the moment he thinks them and he should really keep his mouth shut (mostly at work), and I'm so reserved and quiet that most of the time, people have no idea what I'm thinking (which is really for the best most of the time - it would probably ruin my wholesome reputation :) ). But I think we balance each other. Who wants to spend the rest of their life with someone exactly like themselves? How boring would that be? We're alike in the things that really matter, and we still have so much fun together - partly because of our differences, I think.

Erik hates mushy sentiments (I've stopped buying cards completely), but I just want him to know how happy I am to be married to my best friend. It's been a great ride, and I'm glad I have a front row seat for the next 10, 20, 50 years!

I am so happy for you! I think I knew Erik was a keeper when he came over with the potato cannon and shot potatoes off the back deck into the yard! I also knew "we're both going to date other people in college" was pretty much not going to happen, although there was that one dessert incident that could be called a date, I guess! It has been a pleasure watching you both grow and become committed to each other, your marriage and your family. Love you! Mom
