The Joys of Toddlerhood

Lillian has done some funny things in the last couple days, so I thought I'd share.

The other day, she was wandering around the house, but she was making noise so I could tell where she was. Then, she got quiet. I tip-toed down stairs, and there she was...with a wet wipe in her hand, heading toward Laddie, who was laying by the door. When he sees her coming, he gets up and heads...under the table where he thinks she can't get him. But she's too smart for him. She walks to the side where she can get him. As she gets there, she tries to wipe him off! He decided he didn't need a bath, so he moves to the other side of the table. And Lillian promptly picks up her wipe and moves to the other side to finish the task. They did this for a little longer until I finally laughed out loud and she realized I was watching.

On Saturday, we'd just finished lunch and she was playing with some lids in the kitchen when she put her thumb in her mouth, which usually means she's tired. So I asked, "Are you about ready for a nap?" And she nodded her head! The usual response to that question is an emphatic "NO." But I thought I'd take her up on it. With the struggle we've had lately in getting her to take a nap, it was a nice change, let me tell you.

The last couple months sure have been interesting. I thought it was exhausting when she was an infant, but that was nothing compared to now. She's constantly on the move, leaving a path of destruction behind her that returns in the blink of an eye after it's picked up! But it's a good time for the most part.

Bear Lake

Last weekend, we went to Bear Lake with a big group of friends. We had a great time with lots of food and even homemade root beer, which got stuck in the spout for a while due to dry ice (thanks to Eric and Tina for getting it pourable!). The water was still pretty cold, but I don't know that Bear Lake ever warms up too much.

Erik played some Frisbee in the lake, and Lillian and I hung out on a berm with Karina and Carson. She walked in at one point but decided she'd rather play with the sand/mud. It was a lot of fun until she started eating her mud pie. Then I decided we'd had enough.

All in all, a gorgeous day to go the lake and have some fun!

Mexico

Erik and I had our 5-year anniversary last year, but Lillian wasn't to the point yet where we felt comfortable leaving her for a long time. So we didn't do anything real big. But we decided that she could handle it by May 2008, so we booked a cruise to Mexico.

My mom came up to Logan and watched her for the 5 days we were gone. They had a great time together, and I don't think they missed us at all.

Erik and I loved the cruise and are already trying to figure out when we can take our next one. We left from San Diego, and our first stop was Ensenada. Not the most exciting place to visit; I don't think we'll go back. But we had fun at the market street on the way to the blowspout (the one attraction there) and haggled for some silver earrings.

We also stopped in Cabo San Lucas, which was much better. Definately geared more towards tourists, which I'm fine with. I don't really want to see the "real" Mexico, I guess. We did some ocean kayaking and then some snorkeling. I have to say, it's a little weird at first, but once I got used to it, it was great. We had a waterproof camera, but none of the pictures really turned out. It wasn't the clearest water. I hear the Caribbean is much better. Maybe next year.

We also had a couple days at sea, so we got in some sun bathing and some shows. The food was great (and plentiful), and being waited on most of the time is pretty nice.

Snowmobiling

So I finally let Erik talk me into a snowmobiling trip. Erik's mom watched Lillian for the day while we went with Jared, Ashley, and Buzzy. I'm the first to admit that I'm the biggest whimp when it comes to motor sports, so I felt like I was holding everyone back the whole time. Buzzy claims he was glad I was slow since then he didn't feel the pressure to go faster, but I think he was just being nice. ;)

Despite the cold and getting separated from the group at one point, I had a good time. But I never need to go more than once a year...

It seemed like a good idea...

For those who don't know, Lillian wears cloth diapers when we're at home. We use a paper liner to help make those "messy" clean ups a little easier. One day, I went in to get Lillian after her nap, and this is what I found:

Needless to say, I moved the cart with the diaper supplies so she can no longer reach it. :)

Lillian turns 1!

Lillian turned 1 on January 19. We had a fabulous party for her with lots of family and friends. She ended up having an ear infection, but I think she had a pretty good time anyway. Especially when she got her own cake to demolish.

At her one-year check-up, she only weighed 15 lbs, so she's still a small fry, but the doctor didn't seem concerned. She did start crawling right after Christmas, so that was great. At the same time, she FINALLY got her bottom two teeth!

It's been quite the year, but totally worth it. I just can't believe how fast it went!! And this year is already half way over...

It's about time...

While talking with some friends this weekend, we got on the subject of blogs, and I was embarrassed to say that I hadn't done anything on ours for quite a while. Over six months it turns out. So I figured I better get going. So here's a few updates from the last six months...
